Recruitment of Czech & Slovak buyers to Turkish houseware event in Warsaw, Poland

Objective: The objective was to recruit 1 VIP sponsored buyer each from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to attend a houseware trade event organized in Warsaw, Poland by a Turkish houseware sector association.
Results: Thanks to its knowledge of and contacts in the Czech and Slovak markets, EasyLink was able to recruit two important distributors to sign up to the event. Additionally, after a very large e-commerce player also showed interest, the client agreed to issue a third sponsored trip invitation as well.

Seeking Russian distributor for US yoga mat brand

Objective: Starting with Russia, and later replicating the research also in Estonia, Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, our client requested EasyLink to classify sanitary products such as Sanitary Napkins, Sanitary Liners or Shield, Sanitary Tampons, Baby Diapers, Adult Diapers, Baby (Body and Face) Wipes (Wet type), Masks and others in accordance with each country's regulations, and determine conditions for their import and sale in the territory.
Results: EasyLink interviewed certification agencies to find out whether the target products are classified as sanitary or medical products. The report provided custom tariff codes for all products and summarized all import regulations, norms and requirements, labeling regulations, VAT and import duties to facilitate the client's market entry strategy. The research was completed in Russia in 2018, and the client turned to us again in 2019 for Estonia and in 2020 for Lithuania, EU-wide regulations on import licensing, and for Azerbaijan, and for two more countries in 2021 - Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

A German supplier of cookware and kitchen gadgets looking for suppliers in Eastern Europe

Objective: EasyLink was commissioned to identify manufacturers of cookware and stainless steel kitchen utensils for home use with production sites in Eastern Europe. The client was particularly interested in companies from Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and also Turkey provided they had production facilities located in Eastern Europe and not outside of it. The quality of the manufactured products was also regarded as very important.
Results: Our consultants in Central and Eastern Europe have researched the markets to find potential suppliers in target countries. 16 manufacturers were identified in Turkey while only one was found both in Bulgaria and Hungary, and none in Romania. The main reason was that many companies only manufactured industrial kitchen equipment for professional use, or did not have sufficient capacity or experience in the production of household kitchenware. Such products are mainly imported from Asia.

U.S. furniture manufacturer targets additional business partners in Russia

Objective: Our client, one of the leading US producers and importers of home office, occasional, bedroom, dining, and entertainment furniture, had been selling to Russia for almost two decades. However, upon their Russian distributor going bankrupt and subsequent development of new business partnerships, sales remained below expectations. EasyLink was requested to gather market intelligence to help the company understand if there were opportunities to sell more through accounts they were unaware of or areas they have overlooked. The task was to develop a database of potential new customers and partners, specifically medium-sized and large companies within 5 specific categories.
Results: EasyLink identified close to 70 potential partners; the database (in an easy-to-use spreadsheet format) included retailers (medium to higher end price range), middle or big e-commerce businesses, large / high-end interior designers and interior designers experienced in importing furniture from the USA, furniture importers/distributors, and sales agencies experienced in selling furniture imported from America, Europe, or Asia into Russia. Each entry included company name, website, Instagram/Facebook account link, info on retail showroom locations where applicable, short description including indication of size (turnover, number/size of stores etc.), and company contact details.

Selection of buyers for participation in B2B digital event in the Yachting sector

Objective: EasyLink was hired to identify and approach potential buyers from the yachting sector in the Czech Republic that would participate in a B2B digital event organized by an Italian partner company and the Italian Industrial Association of Motor Yacht production. Italian manufacturers and sellers of high-end and luxury yachts on one side were to meet 2-3 potential buyers located in the Czech Republic through a digital marketplace platform.
Results: Based on the project brief, the EasyLink consultant conducted market research into companies involved in the distribution of motor yachts (broker, dealers, agents) with a special focus on luxury yachts distribution. The information resources used to develop the initial list of contacts included business directories, trade fair catalogues (esp. FOR BOAT trade fair in Prague), sector-specific associations (The Boating Industry Association), brokers' websites, and the consultant's own market knowledge. The consultant drew up a database of suitable companies out of which 11 companies were shortlisted based on the client´s criteria. All of the selected companies specialized in the sale of high-end or luxury yachts on the Czech market. Three companies expressed interest and registered for the online event.

US manufacturer of wall decals targets Russia

Objective: EasyLink was asked to assess market opportunities via partnership with potential distributors as well as direct exports to large accounts in Russia.
Results: An initial list of 46 potential partners (including 17 distributors and 29 online and offline retailers) in Russia was produced by EasyLink; contacting the pre-selected prospects took place in two stages. First, the client selected five companies (leading e-shops) to be contacted. Subsequently, 16 prospective distributors were contacted.

US company needs to resolve tax and shipping issues in the Polish market

Objective: A manufacturer of hand tools had established themselves reasonably well in Poland, but has hit an issue with tax and also transportation. These were relatively minor problems which, however, affected the company’s business in Poland causing delays and paperwork problems. EasyLink was hired to provide assistance in this matter.
Results: The US company had difficulties in setting up a direct agreement with local transport companies as they refused to collaborate with a legal entity without a physical presence in Poland. The consultant helped find a solution and new account managers were found at the shipping companies who agreed to sign a contract directly with the US client. Also, the tax issue was solve together with a Polish accountant company. The client was very enthusiastic with the project outcome and highly appreciated our work. “This is great news as it will help simplify a lot of work to get paperwork for taxes.”

Partner search project: Identifying distributors of dermatology, cosmetic and cosmeceutical products for professional use

Objective: Italian producer of exclusive skin beauty treatments, innovative range of products for sport and massages, and natural cosmeceutical treatments wished to identify potential business partners in the Czech Republic.
Results: EasyLink conducted market research into companies involved in distribution of dermatology, cosmetic, and cosmeceutical products for professional use, skin beauty treatments, and products for sport, physical therapy, and massages. EasyLink identified and approached 20 companies. Due to the worsening epidemiologic situation in the Czech Republic related to the Covid19 pandemic, EasyLink could not recommend travel to meet potential partners in September 2020 and alternatively recommended establishing direct communication with the three sales leads identified during the project via a conference call or email.

US manufacturer of decorations and party goods ready to meet potential partners in the Czech Republic

Objective: Following EasyLink´s partner search project carried in the spring of 2019 and subsequent communication with previously identified targets, the client committed to travel from the United States to meet potential partners in the Czech Republic and Poland. EasyLink recommended widening the base of potential distributors and customers to include not only importers of party supplies, but also importers and distributors of toys, promotional companies, and event organizers.
Results: In the Czech Republic, EasyLink reconnected with several companies approached previously and identified new potential partners, contacting altogether 34 companies. In Poland, where no previous work had been carried, EasyLink identified and contacted 61 companies. First, the consultants in both countries called each of these companies to identify relevant managers and establish communication with them. Following an introductory call each company representative was provided comprehensive information via e-mail. The mailing included a profile prepared by the consultants in the Czech and Polish language and materials provided by the client. Unfortunately, on March 10, 2020 the trip had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. By that time, 6 companies in Poland and 3 in the Czech Republic already confirmed their readiness to meet the client during the visit planned for March 30 to April 3, 2020. The client was advised to initiate direct communication with the companies. Additionally, EasyLink identified one company interested to meet at the Spielwarenmesse trade fair in January 2021.

Cosmetics market in the Czech Republic

Objective: EasyLink was asked by a US company offering a range of products for the beauty supply market to analyze potential for their cosmetics brand.
Results: In 2018, Czechs spent on average USD 32 monthly on cosmetic products. The population of the Czech Republic reaches 10.68 million. Over 858 tons of lip make-up preparations worth USD 61 million, 948 tons of eye make-up worth USD 76.6 million, and 493 tons of make-up or skin powders worth USD 23.6 million were imported to the Czech Republic in 2018. Czechs shop for higher end products in perfumeries and for cheaper products in drugstores, hypermarkets, and supermarkets. On-line sales now present strong competition for traditional perfumeries. The final report also included retail prices of selected cosmetics products sold in various sales venues in the Czech Republic as well as mapped and profiled the leading local producers and retailers and provided regulatory and technical information.

US producer revisiting their strategy for the Czech market: Direct sales or via an importer

Objective: Our client successfully sells their ear phones in the US on Amazon; they needed to evaluate whether the same strategy should not be deployed for the Czech market rather than going via a distributor.
Results: EasyLink´s report outlined pros and cons of the new potential strategy. According to the Association of E-commerce, 2018 sales of e-shops in the Czech Republic reached USD 6.2 billion. The Czech Republic is indeed the fastest-growing e-commerce market in Europe; its online retail industry is predicted to grow 16% between 2019 and 2021. Czech (domestic) sites/e-shops are the most popular among Czech consumers. Amazon is not a major e-shop used by Czechs, but its sales are growing. We provided details on expectations and requirements that would come with selling via the largest local e-shops such as Alza and Mall as well as logistics issues. We provided clear recommendations to the client as to the best strategy for the client to sell in the Czech market.

Market report on business environment in Ukraine and Serbia

Swedish producer of alkylate petrol targets another CEE market

Objective: The client again sought EasyLink’s assistance in identifying potential importers and distributors of alkylate petrol, this time targeting Hungary. The fuel is used in two-stroke and four-stroke engines in gardening and forestry equipment. Since the time that EasyLink carried the project in the Czech Republic, the client has appointed one of the companies its importer and developed a successful partnership.
Results: Considering the nature of client’s products, the scope of our research for potential business partners covered both importers of fuel, motor oil, and fuel additives as well as wholesale traders (also ECSM handlers) and companies involved in the distribution of gardening and forestry products and equipment. 32 potential business partners were approached together with a Budapest-based consulting firm that specializes in excise tax authorization cases. The client visited Hungary in March 2019 to meet with three potential distribution partners and the consulting company to discuss possible route to market options. EasyLink accompanied the client during the entire trip to provide in-market support and interpret as required.

Objective: Following a successful market entry in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria, our client commissioned EasyLink again with partner search in Serbia.
Results: Knowing the products and market strategy well enough already, we identified, screened and approached 26 companies in Serbia. We distributed the client's presentation materials and discussed the business opportunity at a managerial level. Within a very short timeframe (the client wished to conduct the market visit still before Christmas 2018) we arranged meetings with 7 prospective partners and took care of all the logistics matters (car rental, recommendation of hotels with regard to meeting venues etc.). The client had very good discussions in Serbia and said that at least 2 companies met can be really interesting with high potential for cooperation.

Japanese trading company evaluating 3 CEE markets

Objective: EasyLink was asked to evaluate three markets (Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary) for a Japanese trading company with focus on multiple consumer categories: houseware, furniture and fashion accessories.
Results: For each country, we prepared a 50-slide PPT presentation detailing each category. We also prepared a country overview (general, economic, growth-trends), an overview of each sector and pinpointed 3-5 interesting brands in each category having the best potential in the Japanese market. We also identified OEM partners for each category. For the client's own product (ionic toothbrush) we scoped all three markets and described the major sales channels (pharmacies, drugstores and e-commerce). Each presentation also included a concise executive summary highlighting the category of highest potential for the client's easy reference. The reviews served as a starting point for further steps to be taken by EasyLink on behalf of the client in the CEE region.

Italian furniture producer searching a representative in the Czech Republic

Objective: An Italian producer of design furniture for offices, operating already a showroom in Prague, requested a business representative / sales agent search to cover the whole Czech Republic market.
Results: After consulting the client on the most effective way to achieve results, EasyLink developed adverts to promote the client as an attractive employer and posted them on the largest Czech job portals as well as marketplace for tradesmen. The whole project resulted in the client finding a suitable candidte and hiring him after several interviews, with assitance by EasyLink.

Italian producer of swimming pool chemicals and technologies expanding to Bulgaria and Hungary

Objective: Following a successful visit in the Czech Republic in December 2017 the client, a major Italian producer of swimming pool chemicals and technologies asked Easylink to assess potential in other CEE countries. EasyLink first conducted a quick scoping in Romania, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria with regard to the number of public swimming pools, hotel spas etc. Based on the quick results delivered within a single working day, the client opted for Bulgaria and Hungary as their next target markets.
Results: In Hungary, EasyLink identified 35 potential partners for the client. These included companies engaged in distribution of swimming pool chemicals, swimming pool technology, construction companies with references in large public swimming pool projects and operators of swimming pool technologies and/or chemical producers. Following the first wave of phone calls EasyLink distributed all company PDF materials and product literature to interested parties. 6 companies expressed their interest in further talks and were ready to meet the client during their visit to Budapest in June 2018. EasyLink assisted with hotel recommendation and all logistic issues and accompanied the client to all meetings, thus adding value to the entire project. The client was very happy about the outcome of the market visit and advised that "there was good chance of a partnership agreement with one of the meeting companies." One week later, the client traveled to Bulgaria where EasyLink had previously approached 16 companies. Since the itinerary in Bulgaria required a lot of traveling, EasyLink helped to schedule the route, looked for suitable hotels and arranged a car hire for the client. We also arranged interpreters for two meetings.

Italian producer of swimming pool chemicals looking for partners in the Czech Republic

Objective: Our client is a large Italian group with over 50 years history in the chemical industry. One part of the group produces innovative chlorine-free swimming pool chemicals and technologies and is searching for distribution partners across the CEE, starting with the Czech Republic.
Results: EasyLink conducted market research into companies involved in distribution of various technologies for public swimming centres and water parks, design and engineering companies with strong references among public swimming pool facilities and local producers of swimming pool chemicals. The initial list comprised 26 prospective partners. The Czech Republic ranks third in the EU in the number of garden pools per inhabitant (after Spain and France). Interviews with the managers indicated that the market is quite saturated, but 6 companies expressed their readiness to discuss potential cooperation, including the biggest supplier of garden swimming pools in CZ and two major distributors of swimming pool chemicals and technologies. The client was extremely satisfied with their mission to the Czech Republic. They are in serious talks with 3 out of 5 prospects in CZ and will certainly add another country on the list to be explored through EasyLink.

Leading UK fitness equipment distributor targets another market

Korean company wishes to asses potential for their eco-friendly disinfectants in Poland and the Czech Republic

Results: EasyLink listed over 70 companies in Poland and the Czech Republic and talked with their managers about the potential of the client's products. We summarized the most important regulatory requirements for the company to follow/apply for and arranged 9 meetings. The client provided samples to each prospect and agreed to follow up upon their return to South Korea. The company was very pleased with EasyLink's services and dedication in both countries and assessed the business trip as highly productive.

U.S. inventor of a bed system for special needs families explores opportunities in CEE markets

Objective: In preparation for their participation at REHACARE 2017 taking place in Dusseldorf, Germany in October 2017, EasyLink was asked to map resources related to special needs families in the Czech Republic. Then, after the event EasyLink team in Estonia was asked to conduct a confidential background check of a potential importer to Estonia.
Results: In the Czech Republic, 5 potential distribution partners - the leading importers and distributors of equipment, devices, and consumables for home care and one of the leading organizations in the area of care for people with autism were approached and interviewed. The campaign generated one potential sales lead; the company was a major wholesaler and supplier of specialized medical equipment in the Czech Republic and one of the leading manufacturers of rehabilitation equipment and medical devices in Central Europe; the Czech company was advised to visit the client´s booth to see the product and discuss opportunities. After the fair, EasyLink team in Estonia carried a background check of the potential importer. Resources utilized during the project included research of secondary resources such as annual financial reports and media – searching for information on the company as well as its executive management. The client was provided key figures from the profit and loss statements for the past 4 years and breakdown of sales by activity.

Partner search in CZ and SK for the biggest cosmetic producer from Moldova

Objective: Our client is the biggest producer of natural cosmetics in Moldova. The company wishes to find distribution partners in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Results: EasyLink compiled and contacted 43 companies in CZ and 32 in Slovakia. The pool of prospects included major importers/distributors, wholesalers, drugstore retail chains (TETA, DM drogeriemarkt) and e-commerce companies. Economic growth in the Czech Republic positively affected beauty and personal care sales during 2016. 45% of Czech consumers preferred shopping in drugstore retail chains (TETA, dm and Rossmann), 23% chose to shop in retail chains (Tesco, Lidl, Kaufland, Globus or Albert) and 12% buy drugstore products in small drugstore shops. EasyLink managed to arrange 6 meetings in the Czech Republic and 5 in Slovakia and produced a detailed meeting program for the client's convenience.

UK distributor of gym equipment eyes Slovakia and Hungary

Objective: Our client is the largest wholesaler and distributor of gym equipment and rubber flooring products in Ireland and one of the largest in the UK. Owning sole distribution rights to some of the world’s leading fitness equipment manufacturers, the client wished to explore the growing CEE fitness markets starting with Slovakia and Hungary. The client wished to begin with an insight into the size of the market, fitness trends and competition present, followed by a standard partner search project aimed at both the fitness equipment and rubber flooring side of business.
Results: Market research exercise showed that the Slovak and Hungarian markets are small in comparison to the UK or even Poland, yet slowly growing. Only a handful of local gyms belong to a chain, most are independently operated. Local distributors often supply neighbouring markets in addition to their own. EasyLink then focused on approaching gym equipment retailers, wholesalers and service companies, e-shops with own showroom and specialist flooring contractors and flooring wholesalers. EasyLink contacted a total of 48 companies in the 2 markets and set up meetings with 9 companies interested in discussing potential partnership. Discussions with the potential partners went extremely well with one of the Slovak companies offering to cover 2 additional CEE markets for the client!

Luxury self-tanning products evaluate the Czech market

Objective: A leading UK producer of luxury tanning products wished to meet new potential partners in the Czech Republic and re-evaluate local potential due to unsatisfactory performance of their current local distributor. EasyLink was to gather information on potential partners and contact companies of most interest – the pool of targets would consist of distributors of beauty products (skincare / bodycare related), premium beauty products retail chains and top online sellers of premium beauty products.
Results: EasyLink provided a list of 26 prequalified partners to the client, including the 2 largest online sellers of beauty products and 4 premium products retail chains. 24 companies were contacted with an offer to meet the client, out of which 8 expressed interest in meeting and develop potential partnerships. This included the two largest online sellers of beauty products, which were already familiar with the brand and wished to discuss its current performance in the market as well as next steps for further development. The client met 6 companies in Q2 2017 to discuss potential partnership.

Partner search in Romania for a manufacturer of LED light fixtures

Objective: Our client is a designer and manufacturer of simple battery powered LED light fixtures that improve safety and security in and outside the home. The company has started to build a network of distribution partners in Europe. The primary target customers for these products are DIY retail stores. EasyLink was commissioned to search for distribution partners supplying DIY chains in Romania.
Results: In the course of the project EasyLink identified 29 prospects of whom the client prioritized 12 companies for further contact. EasyLink produced a report including a market overview (with focus on DIY chains and LED lighting sector). EasyLink talked with the relevant decision makers in all 12 companies and introduced the client's products and strategy in Romania. 4 companies are interested in further talks and will be approached directly by the client.

U.S. manufacturer of wood pellets for heating and biofuel assesses relevant export markets in Europe

Objective: EasyLink was requested to evaluate potential of the Czech market. Information resources included media articles and a website of a cluster that associates the majority of local producers. We also interviewed the president of the cluster by phone.
Results: We delivered information on local production, consumption, imports and exports, and prepared an overview of key producers and prices. Exports of wood pellets from USA to Europe more than doubled in 2012 and 2013, they reached 4.7 million tons of pellets (about 63% of all pellets produced in USA) in 2013. The U.K. and Belgium are the leading importers of pellets from USA; no wood pellets are exported from the United States to the Czech Republic, a country where local production significantly exceeds consumption, about two-thirds of Czech production is indeed exported.

Partner search in Russia for a Czech supplier of sanitation products

EasyLink prepared a detailed partner search report containing a general overview of the market with feedback from interviews with the approached prospects, profiles of positive companies with detailed feedbacks and short profiles of all other contacted companies. EasyLink also prepared a detailed meeting itinerary and provided in-market assistance to the client. EasyLink consultant in Russia accompanied the client to one meeting where interpreting was necessary.

Results: We analyzed various options for the client to reach the market such as methods and outlets from which people buy jewelry, forms of media that would be most appropriate for the client to advertise in. We also mapped their competitor's product sales. Our resources included research of business databases, jewelry-dedicated websites, websites of companies, associations, and magazines/media as well as phone interviews with market players. The Czech market is quite well supplied - Czech customers most often buy locally or in other European countries. Only a small portion of them buy outside of Europe. We also researched various message boards where people talk about how they buy jewelry products. Etsy is widely recognized and used in the Czech Republic. The number one venue is Fler.cz, which is a local version – for Czech sellers and buyers, in Czech only. Another option would be advertising at Design Portal, which is a portal dedicated to design, its focus is on local designers.

Estonian pet care products eye Hungary for their next expansion

Objective: After successfully completing a project in the Czech Republic and establishing cooperation with 2 prospects, our client, an Estonian producer of premium bedding and nesting products for small pets, commissioned EasyLink to explore opportunities in another market, this time in Hungary.
Results: Hungary has proven to be a more challenging market, mainly due to the fact that the premium segment for small pets is not as yet developed – in general, Hungarian consumers are considered to be rather price-sensitive usually on the lookout for less pricey goods. Results: Market information gathered via phone discussions with local wholesale traders, retailers, agents/distributors have revealed a rather saturated cleaning, hygiene and sanitary market in Hungary. Even though online selling is not as widespread in Hungary as in most developed countries, the cleaning, hygiene and sanitary products sector seems to be an exception. A great deal of the companies contacted run a webshop and generate a large part of their sales online. Objective: The client supplies a very wide range of products for the beauty supply market. EasyLink was requested to assess market opportunities and evaluate possible route to market options.
Results: In the Czech Republic almost two thirds of all cosmetics and personal and home care products are annually sold by FMCG food-retailers: supermarkets and hypermarkets, the leading retail chains include e.g. Tesco, Kaufland or Albert. Specialized drugstores (leading chains include dm, Teta and Rossmann) generate slightly over one-third of sales in this category. Specialized drugstores now strive hard to steal customers from hypermarkets and supermarkets by establishing customer loyalty programs and through various retail events. We interviewed purchasing managers of the leading chains as well as local haidressers to inquire into their sourcing requirements and needs. We can roughly estimate based on interviews with hairdressers that they shop for their supplies once a week and some USD 400 is spent monthly by a full-time working hairdresser on various supplies including hair dyes, shampoos etc. Hairdressers shop at specialized wholesalers carrying professional lines of products for hairdressers, cosmeticians, and other professionals in the beauty segment.

Objective: A leading Romanian trade fair organizer wished to attract visitors from the Czech Republic and the UK for BIFE-SIM Furniture Trade Fair held in Bucharest in September 2014. The task was to develop a long list of 30-35 companies to produce 2-4 hosted buyers interested in the opportunity and present company profiles of interested buyers to the trade fair organizer.
Results: EasyLink compiled long lists of 35 (CZ) and 34 (UK) companies – major furniture wholesalers/retailers that were all approached with the opportunity to visit the furniture fair in Bucharest within the hosted buyer programme launched by the trade fair organizer. All companies were approached by phone and detailed information about the trade fair (including information on exhibitors, visitors of previous editions and general information about the Romanian furniture market) was provided to them by email. Due to a rather tight schedule (40 days prior the event) combined with holiday season the response was not overly positive in either country. However, EasyLink managed to recruit one of the biggest UK retailers to visit the trade fair in Bucharest. A number of potential buyers in the Czech Republic were interested in the opportunity but had to reject the offer due to previously scheduled commitments and wished to be approached if a similar opportunity arises in the following years.

During the second stage of the project, the consultant was to contact prospective partners selected by the client, identify the key decision-makers and carry out in-depth interviews with each to establish the level interest in view of the proposed partnership with the client. Based on results of Stage 2, EasyLink would proceed with stage 3 and set up meetings with best prospects for the client’s visit.
Results: For stage 1, an initial list of 26 companies was submitted to the client who subsequently approved 23 of them for stage 2. After initial contacts with the targeted companies and further feedback from the client, EasyLink arranged meetings with 10 highly qualified prospects. Meetings were organized for a week-long visit and EasyLink also assisted in identifying hotels, car/driver service, and interpreter services.

The client now wished to identify additional partners in Russia - representatives or brokers that sell goods for kids, beddings, and related products including e-shops, as well as to select advertisement outlets for children goods in Russian magazines.
Results: Easylink consultant for Russia identified a total of 24 potential partners, the list included the largest Russian chains of stores with children goods, smaller retail stores and e-shops with children bedding and bedroom accessories, boutiques with luxury children goods and other organizations. After further discussion and evaluation by the client, the list was narrowed down to ten companies to be approached by the consultant. Our efforts generated the top prospect - a chain of stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg offering a wide range of goods for children from 0 until 12 years of age was chosen and agreed to direct communication and partnership establishment with the client.

Distributor and customer search project in the Czech Republic

Objective: Our client, a veneered board manufacturer based in Ireland, had recently received some very strong interest for their product from a large distributor in Lithuania. They had supplied samples and pricing and from initial feedback they believe to have the ability to supply a competitively priced product to this market. Given this feedback the client wished to explore similar opportunities with other companies in Central Europe.
Results: The Czech furniture industry is very fragmented; there are approximately 2,000 small and 400 medium-size companies, and only about 20 large companies with over 250 employees. Interviews with managers of furniture making companies helped us to identify procurement practices in sourcing veneered boards: in fact, many larger furniture makers are capable of producing veneered boards in-house while smaller companies source veneered boards locally. We identified and approached 36 prospective partners: 16 distributors of materials for furniture and door manufacturers and 20 final customers, i.e. manufacturers of furniture and doors as well as hotel/restaurant fitting companies. Their interest in business negotiation as well as capabilities and potential for becoming distribution partners or final customers were evaluated.

Objective: In helping our partner to recruit qualified delegates to participate in EuroExpoFurniture EEM 2012 held in Moscow, Russia in April 2011, EasyLink is asked to prepare an overview that would give a taste of the furniture sector in Russia -show how the local market works and what opportunities there might be.
Results: The client acknowledged EasyLink for delivering a “well-done” 14-page report on the Russian furniture market, which expanded rapidly in recent years, with an annual growth of 15-20%! Russia has over 5,000 furniture manufacturing companies and the industry employs more than 116,000 people! The report helped the client “connect a few dots of information they had received on this market.” In preparation of the overview we utilised desk research as well as phone interviews with retailers. The areas covered included market and industry data, furniture range, key producers (about 25% of the industry is controlled by eight largest furniture producers located in Moscow and the Moscow region), information on distribution and retail, and an overview of key exhibitions and magazines. We also provided photographs of store interiors showing some of the various styles of furniture that are currently on sale in Russia.

After presenting our findings, the client proceeded with a market visit. EasyLink prepared a detailed itinerary including meetings as well as logistics arrangements. Objective: Our client, a manufacturer of infants wear, toddlers and kids t-shirts and nightwear, ladies t-shirts and nightwear, required 2-stage assistance from EasyLink’s team. Initially, we were requested to prepare detailed profiles of garment importers/distributors including their procurement managers’ contact details and divide the companies into three separate categories specified by the client. Stage Two was dedicated to arranging business appointments with the companies' heads of buying teams or people in charge of procurement.
Results: In Stage One report, the client was provided detailed profiles of over 40 Czech and 20 Hungarian criteria-meeting companies. The client then short-listed the companies which he liked the most. The consultants then contacted them to evaluate their interest and set up meetings with the interested and qualified parties. The client visited the CEE market in August 2006; in the Czech Republic alone, he met with 11 prospective partners.

Manufacturer of laminates seeks assistance in the Czech Republic

Objective: This project was designed as building up databases of 3 groups of partners - direct customers (large furniture manufacturers), distributors/wholesalers (supplying the product to smaller and medium-sized furniture makers), and architects/designers. The companies were to be identified and information obtained through desk research plus multiple interviews with branch experts, without contacting potential targets directly. In Stage Two, our task was to establish needs that the potential targets may have regarding client’s products - based on desk research and contacting the companies. We were asked to also advise the client how to best approach the top large accounts, how to get their attention and what to offer to them etc. Last but not least we were requested to analyze the distribution network of laminates and develop a database of potential partners.
Results: The client was very happy with our stage one results and immediately continued to stage two during which three key companies were interviewed in order to gather very detailed information on particular issues specified by the client.

Czech Republic: Compiling a database of pre-qualified prospects

Objective: Our client (engaged in sales, marketing, manufacturing and sourcing of consumer products such as power tool accessories & hand tools, home décor products, kids outdoor products as well as kitchen, cleaning and storage items) wishes to analyze opportunities that exist for sourcing in Central and Eastern Europe and understand the trends at work in the region, how to succeed or what to avoid. The company believes that it can optimize its supply chain by engaging suppliers in both Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. Our main task was to provide clear answers and recommendation to the key questions: Is there an opportunity to source more in CEE? And why did the client’s competitors and clients go to CEE?
Results: The thorough reports we provided (close to a 100-page report in the Czech Republic and 70-page text for Slovakia) were based on an analysis of information from publicly available sources, press and branch catalogues and websites, public institutions and checks in stores of various format – from DIY to small retailers as well as interviews with market experts. The reports addressed a large number of issues, including an overview of the targeted industries and main market players, which companies have ventured into the given country and withdrawn and for what reasons, an overview of distribution channels and major distributors, joint-ventures, design and development capabilities of companies in the targeted industries. We then recommended particular branches for sourcing from the Czech Republic and Slovakia and identified particular partner companies.

Results: The report we prepared for the client included profiles of over 30 pre-qualified invitees active in distribution, wholesale and retail of festive decorations. The Russian Christmas/Festive decoration market has adopted a new tradition of celebrating Catholic Christmas in addition to its "old" feast-days (such as Orthodox Christmas and New Year). As a result, the holiday period in Russia now lasts much longer than in Europe - from mid-December up to mid-January.

U.K. company seeking to outsource production to the Czech Republic

Producer of upscale fragrance products targets Poland

Results: Out of 9 contacted companies, EasyLink confirmed 3 companies capable of delivering the required volume either ex-stock or at least within a reasonable period. The client was provided with report as well as quotes and brochures of the qualified sourcing prospects.

Assisting an Irish producer of stoves and street furniture

Objective: Our client designs and manufactures state-of-the-art cast iron range cookers and stoves for both the Irish and export markets from its foundry in Ireland, and would like to identify new market opportunities for their product range in the Central and East European markets. EasyLink was requested to conduct market research to assess the market potential and market entry options for their stoves and cookers in the Czech Republic and identify prospective partners. Furthermore, we were requested to identify a sourcing and/or joint venture partner for their line of street furniture.
Results: The in-depth market study discussed issues such as market size, local production and foreign trade volumes, distribution channels, retail prices as well as promotional activities and identified the key players in the market of stoves as well as furniture. We further identified and interviewed 19 Czech manufacturers and 15 importers of stoves to evaluate their interest in co-operation with the client, via licence manufacturing or some other trade co-operation, including export representation through the client. We scheduled meetings with a total of 8 companies, a mixture of manufacturers and dealers.

Follow up work for a producer of canning jars

Objective: In the spring of 2000 we were asked for a follow-up work to assist the client in closing a partnership deal.
Results: The consultant visited 11 stores and recorded findings related to ball jars as well as competitive products. We further carried out a detail background check of selected prospective partners that the client has selected; we used the services of a professional due diligence agency to provide some of the information requested. We further assisted the client in preparing a distributorship agreement. And already in November 2000, the client reported that their distributor has taken several truckloads of jars!
